Resumen: The aim of this paper is to analyse the lordship structure of a wide area of Castile. In the first part of the article, lordship structures are described, using the Becerro de las Behetrías, a text written in 1352, as the main source. It was found that approximately 60 % of the localities had more than one lord at the middle of the 14th century. The second part of the article deals with the way this fragmented lordship could have worked in practice, while the third part establishes some hypotheses on the social structure of Castile in the central Middle Ages.
